The Missing Link in a Balloon Assembly Line

Image
This weekend a good friend of ours’ son was having a birthday, so we decided to decorate our house for a quick makeshift surprise party.   My youngest was excited so was in one of those ‘Mom.   Mom. Mommy!   I want to help now!’ moods and I was trying to give her things she could do.   When we started to work on blowing up the balloons and tying string on them, the mass chaos was getting me aggravated.   Then my oldest daughter was trying to help and we were making what was supposed to be a fun even into drama.   I decided to give each kid a job and then we could turn this task into somewhat of an assembly line.   I was attempting to get order into the midst of this.               “Ok, you can cut the strings.”   I said to my youngest.            ...

We Have A Cleaning System

Image
I am sure we are not the only person who had had problems with keeping a house clean.   What we used to do is expected everyone to do their part, but when they didn’t it would turn into huge fights.   The kids would get yelled at because their rooms were a mess.   Dan and I would turn snippy at each other because what we thought should get done wasn’t getting done, and it was all out chaos.   I get all people have to find their groove when it comes to family issues like this one, but for a long time it felt we had yet to find it.             A month ago everything changed.   I’m not sure who suggested it.   But out of desperation we listed all the household chores and assigned them.   I hate dusting, and others in my family don’t mind it so much.     Then I made a chart and printed it out.   What had been a...

Tales of a Charismatic Preacher teaching in a Lutheran Church

Before Christmas this year I got the opportunity to preach at two Lutheran churches in Ohio. It was a real honor. If you’ve read my book, or been around me a lot you’ll know I talk a lot about us learning in the church to come together as one body. I was raised as a Lutheran girl and getting to go back into two churches like I did to me was like coming full circle a bit. I desire to go and preach wherever the Lord is leading in any denomination, and this was one of those times. The pastor of both churches is a dear friend of mine, and as I write this I’ll ask you to keep her in prayer. My friend had to ask and prepare the council for me coming. I am an ordained pastor, but not a Lutheran one. I don’t know what exactly she said to all those people. She’d been printing various blogs of mine in newsletters for years. I went out of my way in both services to be rather tame. If God would have told me to prophesy to all of them, I might have questioned it but I would have, but He didn’t. ...

Making a Three-Wick Candle

Image
As I have mentioned in blogs past, I inherited my grandmother’s Christmas decorations. In those decorations were these three large candles. The problem was these three candles weren’t meant for Florida heat. They were stored in the attic and every year kept getting more and more deformed. So last year I had a grand moment of inspiration and decided to melt the three candles down. I used the same wick to turn the wax into a large three wick candle. It was a bit of a mess, but what I ended up with was and is semi functional. This year when we pulled the Christmas decorations out of the attic I was curious to see how the infamous candle creation had fared. I wondered if I would find a large pile of wax because I know that attic can get very hot. Surprisingly it looks exactly like it did when I put it up there last year. When things or people unite together it just makes the whole stronger. Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of thr...
