Avalanche Of Favor

Image
Most of you know my story.   God called me into ministry at the age of 12, and to write my first book at the age of 16.    I was a kid that no one would have expected this out of: I wasn’t the greatest writer, I always just wanted to fit in, and would have NEVER dreamed that I would be doing the things I am doing today.   I had this crazy notion that it would be an easy adventure, and that the hard part would be writing the books.   It hasn’t been the easiest journey, and honestly the easy part is writing.   The part that has felt like it was the wall of Jericho has been the publishing side. It took me a few years to really start working towards this goal, and I really started this journey in 2000. God broke through that in 2012 when Cursing the church or Helping it? was released and then earlier this year a publisher picked up Confessions of a Ninja Mom .   ...

Ode To My Flat Bouncy Ball

Image
For my youngest daughter’s birthday she received this craft kit as one of her presents.  We opened it up this weekend and were having fun playing with it.  In one of the crafts there was this bouncy ball kit where you pour some kind of crystal sand stuff in the mold, hold it in water and eventually you get a bouncy ball.  We had a lot of fun with this craft.  Seriously, they keep inventing more cool things.  Where was the bouncy ball kit when I was a kid?  We made six bouncy balls that day.  The trick was to letting them dry so they could be bounced.  Well eventually they did dry, but I soon found out that the one she gave me had become flat because as it was drying I didn’t move it at all so I now have a lopsided flat bouncy ball.  Sure it functions, but it bounces a little crooked and isn’t as pretty as intended.          ...

Making the Decision Few Will Understand

Image
Dan and I have finally come to faith and agreement some decisions on things that have been going on around us.  I’m not going to announce anything until late next week.  We are excited, nervous, but have reached a place of peace about some of the next steps of our life.  After the shift was made one of the first things that popped into my mind was “how am I going to explain this to so and so”.  Truthfully it’s one thing to reach a place of faith, but it’s another thing to deal with trying to explain decisions to people who don’t understand them and are going to be outspoken in their disapproval.  Let’s face it, when one pursues a calling of God sometimes one makes decisions that appear to those around them to be nuts.  I understand this.  However when one is trying to stay in a place of faith, it can be a challenge to hear the negative repeated to them over and o...

Seriously? There is a Dog Driving That Car!

Image
Yesterday, my oldest daughter and I waited for too long in the Staples parking lot for our computer to be ready.   (To rewind a bit, our family computer caught a nasty bug and we finally opted to take it into Staples where it’s been immunized, vaccinated and everything that can be done to it.   We were told by the staff it would be done by Monday.   So I went in Monday to be told I wouldn’t be getting it yet.   I was told Tuesday morning, and then was called Tuesday morning to be told it would be ready at 5:30 that night.   So we went in Tuesday evening to wait because it still wasn’t done.   If I haven’t mentioned in a blog the customer service in Central Florida is sorely lacking, so anyway my oldest daughter and I were waiting in the parking lot in the car for about 45 minutes waiting for the computer to be done.)   As I was waiting I happen to glance about two rows over.   There was a red pickup truck pulling into a parking space. ...

Paid In Full

Image
I am very excited to get to finally write this blog. When Dan and I felt led to begin the ministry there was an expense that we knew we had to do. I don’t need to get into specifics, though some of you know, but it was a large amount for us. It was such the large amount we wouldn’t even have the payments on it if we’d financed it. Not that I’m suggesting that, Dan and I are firm believers in living Debt free as much as possible. (Romans 3:8) I could teach on all of this but go read a Dave Ramsey book, and grab ahold of it! The decision to do this or not to do this thing was one we talked about, prayed about, and sought wise council on. I’d be lying to you if I told you the choice was easy. It would have been so easy to run the other direction. I remember one day jogging and hearing the Lord ask me, “Why are you looking at the giants in the land?” I knew that taking on this faith step was such a big deal to me that like the Israelites I was seriously seeing the money as a giant a...

I Found My Boots

Image
Several years ago I decided I really wanted a pair of calf length boots. However I didn’t think it would take me so long to find a pair that I liked and would work. Every boot season I would start looking for ones I liked and trying them on, and every season I would end up without a pair. Sure there were several reasons behind this: sometimes price, sometimes my big calves, sometimes I just didn’t see something that made me swoon. What is so funny is that I was so convinced eventually I would find a pair I liked and that fit me right, I even put down to write the blog “I found my boots!” years ago. It was in my blogs that I think about and have in the corner of my head. I wanted a pair and knew I’d eventually find them. Last week I decided to look at one store I hardly ever go to. I figured its February and just maybe I’ll find something on clearance. As all bargain shoppers go I wanted the perfect pair and I didn’t want to pay much for them. There on the clearance was the most p...

Surprise Birthday Purse

Image
My oldest daughter’s birthday is fast approaching, and as part of her present I made her a purse out of duct tape. I know it sounds odd, but it’s actually a very cool thing. I had made one for myself, and she loves it. However what she doesn’t know is that I went out of my way to pick out a roll of duct tape with a pattern that I knew she would really like. The purse has been made and even made its way to Ohio so that she could get it on her birthday. It’s been tucked away waiting for her special day. Today I decided to make a duct tape purse for one of my nieces too. So I could put it with her birthday present as well. They share the same birthday. I knew immediately what pattern of design duct tape I wanted to use. It was a different one than the one I used for my daughter. When we went to Wal-Mart to pick up the tape, my oldest daughter took one look at the different colors and patterns and picked out the exact one that her purse is made out of, but she doesn’t know ...

Back at Firestone

Image
This afternoon Dan, the girls, and I found ourselves behind the counter of a Firestone store/shop. The time had long since come for us to replace the front tires on our car. Tire buying is up there with one of those ‘necessary grownup purchases that one has to make but who really wants to’ with me. I mean I know I’m a guest minister with a book tour coming up and the idea of keeping bald tires on the car isn’t a good idea. So we bit the bullet and went to get them replaced. The funny thing is that as we left the car there and walked to the mall, I had a flashback of another time where we spent a lot of time in a Firestone store. It was Christmastime 2000. I think it may have been only a few days before Christmas and I sat in the uncomfortable waiting area almost in tears. Dan and I had only moved into Central Florida a few weeks prior, and the likelihood we were going to have any family or friends to spend the holidays with was slim to none. We’d gone to a Firestone to have ...

Really God?

On Monday I finished the rough draft of my latest book I’ve been working on. That brings me up to 15 books, 4 screenplays, 2 children’s’ book series’, a college curriculum, a woman’s devotional among some other things here and there. I started to laugh thinking about the first time I felt God called me to write a book. I remember struggling with such fear and feelings of inadequacy. I kept thinking God surely you must have gotten the wrong person. Did you switch my file with someone else’s; do you forget I can’t do that?! Really God, are you sure? As much as I struggled to believe what I felt God was saying I knew I couldn’t deny it. The more and more I tried the more I knew it was God. Today over 17 years later (wow that makes me feel old) I know God saw destiny in me even if I couldn’t. So often people have their own destinies bubbling up ready to burst on the inside of them, and they simply are too afraid to try and keep shoving it down. Here’s a classic scripture about talents. I’v...

I am riding a bike again!

When I was in college at The Ohio State University, I tried for about 2 weeks to ride my bike on campus. It was really a good idea with all the walking I had to do, but the pedestrian and car traffic at OSU is a bit scary. I have joked that it prepared me to walk in New York City. It resembles that. What made me stop riding my bicycle at OSU, is I was riding in a parking lot and was hit by a car. It was not just a little “got hit”, I rolled up on the hood of the vehicle after impact. Fortunately no one was hurt. Really, that was a miracle, because I had rolled up on the hood of the car and hit the windshield. I got back up much to the amazement of the car driver and went on my way to class. However, ever since that day I will admit I have carried a bit of a phobia when it comes to riding a bike. It’s not that I cringed at the sight of a bicycle or that I would never ride one, but I was just a little scared when I got back up to ride especially if I was in areas where there w...

Dr. Nasir Saddiki Confrence

This weekend (Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday) I had the awesome privilege to set in a conference at our church and listen to Dr. Saddiki teach. This conference was life changing. I feel like I have been a sponge trying to soak all this revelation in. If you know me, I have no problem shamelessly promoting people that I think are awesome. If you’ve never heard of this mighty man of God go check out his website at http://www.wisdomministries.org/ I confess until about a month ago when I just happen to catch him on the TV show Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural I had never heard of him. But God is doing awesome things through his life and ministry and I recommend the Jesus in him. One of the many things that really stuck out in these days of teaching that I want to mention is the revelation he brought forth on: Mark 11:23 (NIV) “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen...
