St. Patrick's Legacy

I have often joked that my ethnicity is Ohio Redneck.   Many of you have a shared a laugh with me as I’ve said it.   That’s partially true.   The best answer would be that my ethnicity is Appalachian, but before that:   My family tree can be traced back to Ireland, Scotland, Germany, with a Native American.   I still claim the Ohio Redneck, but the majority of my Heinz 57ness is Irish.   I often say I come from a long line of Irish story tellers: That my destiny was found somewhere in my genetic code. (grin) Somewhere in my stacks of papers I can find the shipping manifest of where my grandfather’s father (I believe it may be an extra generation back) emigrated from Ireland.   Within my cultural code, Ireland is the culture I find I most identify with, though I have a few German/Indian moments. One of these days I’d love to visit the country.      ...

The Building Blocks of Destiny

Image
Many of you have heard me tell the story that I was NOT a writer growing up.   People who were writers were people I admired, but I can remember thinking to myself that was not me.   In fact the gifting never really appeared to my knowledge until after I was baptized in the Holy Spirit.   Which has just always been proof to me that I can’t take credit for this ability?   It’s a gift from the Lord plain and simple.             However, my oldest daughter and I were watching YouTube videos a few days ago.   I was subjecting her to some of my favorite songs as a kid, and she was laughing at the clothing and music styles.   Some of the music that I remember ringing such a cord with me as a kid were these songs that were statement pieces about injustices in the world, or historic pieces that were exposing the darkness in hu...

Praise the Lord My Hunny is 40!

Image
I’m writing today’s blog in honor of my super awesome amazing husband.   Today he turns the big 4-0! I met Dan through a very divinely ordered dramatic turn of events.   I don’t think I need to rehash all the details…however it was akin to something out of an episode of Seinfeld or some romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.   Perhaps it’s a screenplay I’ll write one day; let’s just say God has a hilarious since of humor.               I remember when I was young and my dad turned 40.   I remember thinking it was so old.   It’s funny how age just becomes relative the older you get.               This last season of time has not been easy on either of us, but my husband is such a trooper.   He is one of the most talented artistic minds I’ve ...

Forced Flexibility

When I was young, I spent a lot of time taking gymnastics lessons. I wasn't going to be the next Gabby Douglas, but I spent my time in a gym. When I went to cheer leading all the floor work benifited me. I can remember the gym I trained at had these trainers who used to push us down lower into our stretches. We'd be stretching minding our own business and they'd come over and push us further in the splits. Laugh if you want, but that is painful! Then they'd hold us down in the stretch until a substantial amount time had passed. While it was easy to get irritated when they would do that, today I'm still pretty flexible for a woman in my 30's. Their pushing me to push myself further may have hurt at the time, but made me better in the long run. We all need people like that in our lives. The kinds of people that see more potential inside of you than you see in yourself. We need the kind of leaders that refuse to let you quit, and make you be more flexible...

One Person Can Make a Difference

I have heard people tell me over the years that “You are just one person, and you couldn’t possibly make a difference on this earth.” On this Martin Luther King Jr Day of 2012 I want to remind you all that one person can make a difference. Martin Luther King Jr was one pastor, one father, and one man who essentially changed the world. He helped bring about change in this nation, and when the wars of apartheid sprung up in the 80’s in South Africa I know his inspiration was there as well. One person can make a difference on this earth. Names like Martin Luther (who broke off of the Catholic Church in the 1500’s), Nelson Mandela, Corrie Ten Boom, Anne Frank, and Billy Graham. They were all probably people that would have been considered normal. However, as I wrote in a facebook status update yesterday, “God loves to take ‘normal’ people and do extraordinary things. But it takes the ‘normal’ person to step out of the box of normalcy, and dare to believe Him.” Many of you have heard me tel...

Are You Suffering From Prophetic Anorexia?

Many months ago I wrote two different blogs: one on prophetic amnesia, and the other on prophetic dyslexia. I’ve been joking that I should start a series because I believe the Holy Spirit gave me another one. It’s prophetic anorexia. In the physical anorexia is sadly on the rise especially among young girls. In writing this blog I’m not trying to demean those that suffer from anorexia. If you do then get help! It’s a horrible epidemic. There is a spiritual prophetic anorexia going on in the body of Christ that needs to get addressed. This is when God tries to tell His people something and they don’t want to hear it, so they don’t receive it. In a sense they vomit it out of their mouth. They reject what God is saying. However, I believe the spiritual body needs the words of God. They need the written Word of the Bible, and the prophetic word. John 6:63 (NIV) The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and ...

Supernatural Destiny

I got the opportunity this week to read Don Nori Sr.’s new book “Supernatural Destiny“. Without hesitation I am adding this book to my top five list of books everyone should read (and no I‘m not just saying that, I truly mean it). In it, he talks about how God supernaturally called him to found Destiny Image Publishing and how he has labored along with his family to see what God has spoken come to fruition. I am actually going to wait a few days and go back and read it again. As I read about all the struggles, triumphs, tears, and victories, I found myself in tears. There were so many things that he wrote that Dan and I have found ourselves in similar places. As I read his story, it made me realize yet again, that Dan and I are not the only ones who have ever found ourselves in the plan of God, and struggled to see His purpose in all of it. I truly respect the fact his words were honest and from the heart. He was not trying to paint a glossy picture that he always knew everythi...

Really God?

On Monday I finished the rough draft of my latest book I’ve been working on. That brings me up to 15 books, 4 screenplays, 2 children’s’ book series’, a college curriculum, a woman’s devotional among some other things here and there. I started to laugh thinking about the first time I felt God called me to write a book. I remember struggling with such fear and feelings of inadequacy. I kept thinking God surely you must have gotten the wrong person. Did you switch my file with someone else’s; do you forget I can’t do that?! Really God, are you sure? As much as I struggled to believe what I felt God was saying I knew I couldn’t deny it. The more and more I tried the more I knew it was God. Today over 17 years later (wow that makes me feel old) I know God saw destiny in me even if I couldn’t. So often people have their own destinies bubbling up ready to burst on the inside of them, and they simply are too afraid to try and keep shoving it down. Here’s a classic scripture about talents. I’v...
