Stop Hitting Snooze
When I was in college, I remember having it down to a science how many times I could hit the snooze button before I had to wake up. Lingering in that place of half asleep half-awake, I became master at procrastination and I will get up later. Often times we can find concepts that exist in the physical and transfer them to have meaning in the spiritual. I am not going to say if you are a snooze button hitter in the physical that you have gone to sleep spiritually, but there is a concept here in which I feel that the Holy Spirit is leading me to address.
Matthew 25:5 (Amp)
While the bridegroom lingered and was slow in coming, they all began nodding their heads, and they fell asleep.
The above scripture is taken from the parable of the virgins. Where only half were prepared with enough oil and the other half ran out. When the bridegroom finally did come, the half that did not prepare had gone and gotten more oil only to come back and find that had missed their bridegroom. Their procrastination cost them dearly. However if you notice ALL of them fell asleep.
We are in a season of time in the kingdom where it is critical for everyone to spiritually wake up and discern what God is saying to the church as a whole. There are awesome things that are going to begin to take place in the church but we must be awake and discern the times and seasons.
Matthew 16:3 (KJV)
And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
I was asking the Lord yesterday the simple question, “Ok, then how to we stay awake?” To which His response was: 1) Pray 2) Stay sober and vigilant or alert and 3) Rest when He tells us to. Honestly, #3 surprised me but as I began to think about what I felt God was saying it made a lot of sense. What I felt God was saying is all too often people don’t rest when they need to. Therefore, they are worn out when they need to be alert. This is something I can’t honestly say what you need to do with you, but seek God about when is a time of resting for you and when is a time of running. While I think you always need to stay alert in the spirit, there are times of “resting” God will lead you to in order to prepare you for the next season.
Romans 13:11 (KJV)
[ Put on Christ ] And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
We have to wake up church from being procrastinating lackadaisical mediocre Christians. I’m not saying have a works mentality, however faith without works is dead (James 2:14). There is a balance here. God doesn’t like it when people become lukewarm (Rev 3:14). You have to wake up people. Stop hitting the spiritual snooze button, and wake up! Life is too short to sleep through it! It’s time to wake up.
